About Being Green

Arise Energy Seeks to Be Environmentally…

  • Responsible
  • Sustainable
  • Enterprising, and
  • Affordable

As a leader in delivering Affordable Renewable Energy Solutions here in the Rocky Mountain Region of the US, Arise Energy Solutions believes that responsible environmental stewardship is not only an integral part of doing business; it’s at the core of who we are as a company, and why we’re in business in the first place – to help our clients reduce their energy expenditures as well as their carbon footprints. Thus, we take environmental responsibility very seriously.

This is why we continually review our business processes, vendor relationships, and product mix to ensure that all products and services we use, both internally, and in delivery to our clients, are optimized in terms of their contribution toward improving our ecology in the US.
Here are the cornerstones of our corporate environmental mission.

At Arise Energy, we recycle all paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal products in partnership with our local municipality (Jefferson County, Colorado) and recycling companies who pick up all recyclable waste material from our offices every two weeks. This includes all newsprint, used photocopy paper, magazines, junk mail, and packaging materials, as well as plastic, glass and metal containers of all types. When we deliver and install a renewable energy solution at a client’s property after the job is complete, there are dozens of cardboard sleeves and boxes, plastic bags, wood shipping crates, and bits of scrap wire left over at the end of the install. We pack up all of these materials and feed them into the “recycling engine” that’s available here in our community.

We also seek to purchase and use in our offices only printer and fax paper that has a high-percentage of recycled fiber content, thus minimizing our impact on deforestation, which is a serious ecological issue we face in our world today. Deforestation is clearing Earth’s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land. Today, forests still cover about 30 percent of the world’s land area, although swaths the size of Panama are lost each year to wholesale logging operations. Due to the current rate of deforestation, scientists predict our world’s rain forests could completely vanish within the next 100 years.

Logging operations, which provide the world’s wood and paper products, cut down countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build roads to access more and more remote forests—which, of course, leads to further deforestation.

Deforestation has many negative effects on our environment, the most dramatic impact being the loss of habitat for millions of living species. It’s estimated that roughly 70 percent of Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests – many of these species cannot survive deforestation that destroys their homes.

It’s well known that deforestation also drives climate change. Removing large areas of trees also deprives the forest of portions of its canopy; which leads to more extreme temperatures swings that can be harmful to indigenous plants and animals.

Trees also play a critical role in absorbing the “greenhouse gases” that fuel global warming. Fewer forests mean that an increasing volume of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere—thus increasing the speed and severity of global warming.

Although deforestation rates have slowed a bit in recent years, financial realities make it unlikely that this trend will continue in the future without dramatic changes in human paper-product usage patterns.

To make our contribution toward sustainability, at Arise Energy we feel it’s critical that we do our part to minimize the use of new wood fiber by purchasing and utilizing paper that contains a high percentage of recycled wood fiber.

In addition to helping our clients in their efforts to reduce their carbon footprints, we (as a company, and individually as citizens of the World) strive to reduce our carbon footprints as well. Thus, we have replaced incandescent light bulbs in our offices and homes with compact fluorescent and LED lighting, and have added insulation along with new weather stripping around windows and doors in order to make our building envelopes as efficient as possible. We also participate in the EnergySaver™ program that’s offered by our local electric utility company, allowing our high-demand devices (such as air conditioning) to be automatically shut off during peak energy demand periods.

We’ve updated large appliances in our offices and in our homes, replacing them with EnergyStar compliant models that use less energy (electrical and gas), as well as other resources (e.g. water). And of course we’ve already installed renewable energy systems on one of our own buildings (with more planned for a second building), such that today we offset a significant percentage of our annual electrical energy usage via rooftop production by photovoltaic (PV) solar arrays.

Wherever possible, we also carpool our sales and install teams dispatched to client sites, in order to minimize the number of vehicles we’re putting on the road each day. Our computer systems are also EnergyStar® compliant, utilizing 100% flat-panel TFT displays. Further, computer displays associated with our servers are only powered up when local server access is required. Similar energy-saving measures are implemented throughout the rest of our business environment. As a key part of our business strategy, we have plans to measure, track, and continue reducing our overall energy utilization over time.

Arise Energy donates obsolete IT equipment to various local charities, schools or other non-profit organizations. Unusable equipment is sent to certified technology recycler for environmentally safe disposal and/or reuse of precious/rare metals, etc. One of our founders is a member of the US Green Building Council, and we’re also certified in the use of infrared thermal imaging systems, which we use to assist us in helping our clients make their buildings more “green”.

We’re entrepreneurs at heart, seeking to innovate wherever possible, in our effort to serve our clients more effectively. We believe that everything we do in the areas outlined above also helps us to ultimately deliver more affordable solutions to our clients. We know some of these actions we take as a business have an immediate impact, whereas others may take months or even years to translate into lower costs for our clients. Nevertheless, we strive to do the right thing, day-to-day, day-in, day-out, knowing that by doing so, we’re being good stewards of all the resources that God has entrusted us with.
